Billericay Gazette

WITH the summer of sporting events now in full swing, we have been speaking to licensed premises to ensure they have the correct measures in place to make sure people enjoy football without causing any trouble.

Our message is simple: drink responsibly and enjoy the football, but if you cause trouble or commit crime, you will be dealt with robustly by police and potentially banned from licensed premises.

VISIBLE PRESENCE: Police out on the beat in Billericay, where patrols are being focused on the High Street

We are continuing to focus our patrols on the High Street to prevent people having their purses stolen and are still talking to the main stores to find other ways to deter thieves from targeting Billericay. Our advice for this is simple: please ensure that phones and purses are zipped away securely, and try not to get distracted when you are shopping and stay alert. And most importantly, if you see anyone looking suspicious in shops, alert the store security and call police.

Following our continued focus on antisocial behaviour across the whole of Billericay, I am pleased to say that since the start of January until mid-June, we have reduced reports of anti-social behaviour by nearly 25 per cent. We really have focussed our efforts in the Queens Park Estate and Lake Meadows after numerous residents were complaining of antisocial activities.

A lot of the calls have been in relation to nuisance youths, and it should never be underestimated what a negative impact this can have on the lives of residents, so I am pleased that less people have experienced this compared to the first six months of last year.

Of course we cannot be everywhere at once, so we have concentrated our patrols on the most affected areas and would ask residents to continue to tell us what crime is affecting them so we can effectively deal with it.

As ever, if you want to speak to myself or my team, please call us on 101 or visit www.essex.police.uk and type in your postcode to find your beat mobile number or email us.
