FORMER postman Dave Sparks, 74, was burgled in May 2011.

Suspects forced their way into the first floor flat he shares with his wife Anne, 69, in Mayfield Gardens, Brentwood, before escaping with 11 gold rings, a gold pendant and a timepiece, worth a combined £1,700.

He said this week: "I don't think this approach should be used for actual bodily harm and arson.

"I think it is a bit too lenient for crimes like that."
