NORTH WEALD: Writer hunts for ghostly goings-on

SPOOKED residents of North Weald are being asked to recall their ghostly encounters for a new book.

Author Nicola Kirk, 30, is delving beneath the surface of her home village to uncover and compile stories of paranormal activity and bizarre coincidences.

"The stories have been trickling in," said Nicola.

"Some people have had more than one experience.

"A few people have told me stories about the airfield and the spirit of a Second World War airman who is sometimes seen there.

"North Weald is an historic place so I am also interested to hear of any myths or legends in the area."

Nicola, of Higham View, said: "It's really interesting when the stories are based where you live and in places you can go and visit."

Having previously written fictional tales centred around creepy goings-on, Nicola decided she wanted to document people's personal experiences in a factual book.

"I have always been interested in the paranormal and I don't know why.

"Even when I was little I loved to read books about ghosts," she said.

Nicola has now set up a blog encouraging people to share their encounters.

"People can have a look and see what kind of things other people are talking about and then they won't feel as embarrassed sharing their stories."

However, despite her curiosity, Nicola says she still maintains a necessary amount of scepticism about the paranormal world.

"People believe very much what they have seen but normally there is a reasonable explanation."

She hopes her project will lead to a whole series of books focusing on paranormal activities in different areas of the country.
