Back-to-back wins put Selex 'A' closer to title

PREMIER DIVISION

BAE Selex 'A' seem to have the title sown up having picked up two wins and 18 points in their last two fixtures.

Against St Joseph's at Selex Sports Club they demolished the visitors 10-0 with Paul Stephens, Chris Knight and Trevor Collin too hot for Sue Hickman, Gary Carr and Robbie Burton.

Jon Stokes, Stephens and Gary Hartgrove then travelled to Ramsden Heath where they played a Billericay 'A' team of Ev Lucas, Terry Timms and Mark Martin.

Both Stokes and Stephens were unbeaten, with Hartgrove collecting one win over Martin, but losing to both Lucas and Timms, as Selex won 8-2.

Billericay 'C' also punished luckless St Joseph's, who managed to get on the scoresheet through Robbie Burton's two wins.

For Billericay, Steve Muth collected three wins with Ray Eldridge and John Webber two each, as they won 8-2.

A Billericay Sports derby saw the 'A' team of Glen Johnson (unbeaten), Marilyn Bawden and Mike Johnston picking up a point each with wins over the 'B' team's Malcolm Henstock in an evenly matched 5-5 draw.

FIRST DIVISION

BRENTWOOD 'B' featured in two matches, losing 6-4 away to Writtle 'A' who had another maximum from Mathew Brown to add to two wins for Hector Rogers and a doubles point.

A long drawn out match between Brentwood 'B' at home to Billericay 'D' meant that the doubles point was yet again conceded due to time constraints as five of the ties went to a fifth and final end.

No player finished unbeaten with Brian Steward (two wins) losing to Alan Wood (one win) and Colin Griffiths (two wins) losing to Keith Cullen (two wins). Mary Nicholls also lost to both Cullen and Bill Wall both in five but defeating Wood in five in a hectic match.

Billericay Sports 'D' entertained their 'C' team and narrowly missed out on a draw losing 6-4 to Pat White unbeaten, Alf Fox and Nigel Swanton, one win each over Brian Wellman.

Brian Cole and Mick Joslin picked up two wins each.
