Students take a management challenge

PUPILS rose to the challenge of management at a multi-school conference.

King Edward VI Grammar School (KEGS) and Chelmsford County High School for Girls hosted their eighth challenge of management conference.

Under the guidance of the Challenge Training Partners, led by Barrie Allsop and Andy Dixon, 210 Year 12 students from the two schools were engaged in a series of decision–making games.

Commenting on the event, KEGS head of sixth form, Robin Newman, said: “This is a great opportunity for sixth formers, who are likely to be tomorrow's business leaders, to experience what it is like to work in business and run a company.”

These included a production exercise called Bric-a-Brac, where students make objects for sale as competitively as possible, to the complex computer game Biscuits, which allowed them to run a company and make quarterly decisions to maximise their profit.

It is hoped not only to increase their understanding of management but also to develop key skills necessary for the world of work in the 21st century.

The students were ably assisted by over 20 advisers who gave their time freely. The Conference was sponsored by M & G Investments, Gipping Construction and Wollastons Solicitors.
