School's young athletes prove they're top of class

IT has been a fantastic summer of athletics at Chelmsford County High School for Girls.

At the District Sports' CESSSA Athletics Championship held at Melbourne Athletics Stadium, the school's Year 7 and Year 8 teams both finished first.

Abi Ashford is double district champion for 75m hurdles and long jump.

The latter title came after she broke the district record by 4cms – it now stands at 1m 55cms.

At the National Schools' Athletic Final, held at Copthall Stadium in Middlesex, the school finished eighth.

While the school came first at the Lee Valley Outdoor Cup.

Sarah Bellamy, head of PE at the school, said: "We have had a fantastic summer of athletics.

"The girls are determined and dedicated and they have been a pleasure to work with."
