Essex's own Leddra Chapman is one such musician. The 20-year-old singer/songwriter from Harold Wood began writing songs aged just 12, but in the past few months has burst onto the scene with her beautiful, poetic, folk-tinged tunes.
Her debut album, Telling Tales, was released online at the end of 2009 and will be available in the shops at the beginning of February, so we took the opportunity to find out just what Leddra thinks about her success.
As well as being excited about what lies ahead, she explains how strange the experience of performing on TV show This Morning was and about being picked as an ambassador for clothing range, Quicksilver.
She also tells us how she got into music and explains how venues such as The Hermit in Brentwood helped to shape her songwriting, as well as giving other musicians a much-needed helping hand in their early days.
With comparisons to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morissette and Tracy Chapman, Leddra is definitely one to keep an eye on, and we look forward to hearing more from the songstress in the years ahead.
