The Essex Police Young People of the Year competition recognises and rewards young unsung heroes.
Jessica Watson, of Headley Chase, Brentwood, and Stephen Page of Stapleford Tawney are both in the running for the prize of at least £2,000 which will be presented at a lavish awards ceremony at the Radisson Hotel at Stansted Airport in March.
Jessica, 18, helps her parents by looking after her younger brother who suffers from epilepsy, as well as helping to raise money for a range of charities.
Stephen, 15, has excelled in trampolining, winning competitions while also helping to develop the sport at his school.
Insp Kevin Whipps, head of Essex Police's Children and Young People's Team, said: "It is great to hear about some of the very talented young people we have in Essex.
"Stephen's trampolining achievements are very impressive. It is also good to see that Stephen helps other young people to excel at the sport.
"Jessica is a wonderful positive role model and always thinks of others before herself. The work she has done to raise money for charities close to her heart is inspiring."
Before starting university, Jessica was a pupil at Chelmsford County High School for Girls where she was an active member of the school's charity committee.
She helped raise money for local charity Pseudo Obstruction Research Trust because two of her friends suffer from the intestinal condition which means they cannot digest food.
Proud mum Alison said that her daughter is a tireless, self-motivated individual who tries hard in all she does.
Stephen, who has been trampolining for eight years, has won major competitions for his age and also qualified as an assistant coach.
He helped at school twice a week last term, coaching pupils at GCSE level and also the year seven beginners.
Ami Harries, sports teacher at Brentwood County High School, said: "Stephen is a true asset to the school, he acts as a role model to younger students and is always willing to help out."
Essex Police has put up £2,000 to be won by young people, aged 10 to 25, who give to others and are positive role models.
