Braintree students win Olympic gold

Notley High School students won the coveted opportunity to see the world's largest sports event by beating others from across the county in a competition organised by the county council.
One of the lucky winners, Adam Shambrook, 14, of Great Notley, said: “I am really looking forward to experiencing the different culture over there, and seeing athletes performing at the very top level.
“I am getting more excited about it the closer it gets.”
Judges decided that 24 students from the school performed the best version of a Chinese morning exercise routine.
Six members of that group were then picked for the trip, by getting top marks in a test on China and the Olympics.
Of the eight days they are away, two will be spent travelling, three will be spent at the games and three will be spent taking in sights such as the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square.
Joining Adam will be Ruth Metcalf, 14, of Black Notley, Zoe Webb, 14, of Great Notley, Emily Price, 14, of White Court, Josh Pearson, 14, of Braintree and Sophie Whitaker, 14, of Great Notley.
They will be accompanied by PE teacher Pauline Charnock who said: “I have done a lot of travelling but have never been to Asia – I am really looking forward to it.
“It will be a fantastic experience for me and the children.”
The tickets were made available to six pupils from Essex because of the county's longstanding links with the Jiangsu province of China.
Plans are underway to bring six Jiangsu pupils to London during the 2012 London Olympics.
