A127: Girl dies after horror crash

A three-year-old girl who was fighting for her life after a horror crash on the A127 has died.

Ruby Williams from Anglesey, Wales, who had been visiting relatives in Wickford with her mother, died at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London on Thursday (July 9).

Her mother, Michelle Williams, 38, was killed when her Renault struck the rear of a Polish-registered articulated lorry, which was parked in a lay-by on the London-bound carriageway at East Horndon.

Ruby, who was travelling in the front seat, had received serious injuries and was taken to Basildon Hospital, before being transferred to Great Ormond Street.

The crash took place just after the Halfway House at around 4.30am on July 1 as the pair made their way back to Wales after visiting their relatives, said police.

The lorry driver was asleep in his cab at the time of the collision and escaped uninjured.
