On your marks, get set and go as firms urged to enter Race4Business contest
COMPANIES in Essex are being urged to get tracksuited and booted for the 2012 Birketts Race4Business, this year in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Birketts' Race4Business, organised by law firm Birketts LLP, is a 3.5 mile fun run around Chelmsford. Now in its 14th year, the event has raised more than £400,000 for worthwhile causes.
Registration is now open for this year's event, and founder Richard Wollaston, consultant at Birketts, is calling on companies in the county to come together in a competitive spirit, and raise funds for their chosen charities.
"This is such a worthwhile cause and one which is close to many people's hearts." said Richard. "When we started the event in 1999 we had 140 runners. Since then we have sprinted ahead and last year over 2,000 business people crossed the finish line."

The event will take place after work on Thursday, July 5. The mostly flat course takes runners and walkers through Chelmsford's Admirals Park and West Park before crossing the finish line, set in the grounds of Birketts' offices at Brierly Place.
Richard added: "We want Essex businesses to put their best feet forward to raise money and have fun at the same time. The race takes place the day before the Olympic Torch relay visits our city so it's a great opportunity to kick off the community spirit in advance and to celebrate sporting abilities of all levels, before the real athletes show us how it's done!"
Birketts sponsors the Green category of the Essex Business Excellence Awards. The judges are hoping to hear from companies which help protect the environment with measures that also make sound economic sense.
