Kara to open ice rink
Thursday, November 20, 2008, 15:56
The soap star, who plays Dawn Swan in the popular BBC drama, will open the rink with the help of the cast of Cinderella, which shows at Basildon's Towngate Theatre, as well as council chairman Frank Towlin, ice hockey players and figure skaters.
The impressive 30m x 20m rink, which is kept safe from the elements beneath a huge marquee, took 10 days to prepare and will be open from 10am to 10pm seven days a week.
Kara will join the festive launch, which sees an ice hockey demonstration take place at 10am, with the official ribbon-cutting at 10.45am, a figure skating demonstration at 10.45am, and free skating for the first 380 people in the queue from 11am.
An on-site café will offer a selection of winter warmers for those who want to relax while others take to the ice.
An hour's skating will cost £8 for adults, £6 for children under 16, and £24 for a family ticket of two adults and two children.
Tickets can be bought in advance from the booking line 01268 764437.
