Thursday, July 02, 2009, 17:07

PEOPLE filming on mobile phones may have inadvertently captured vital evidence in a Basildon stabbing investigation, say police.

The attack occurred on Monday June 29, when a 45-year-old man was stabbed in Gower Chase, Laindon around 4pm..

Detectives are keen to view anything filmed at the time of the incident, even though people may not think it's significant.

Investigating Officer DC Lee Drury said: "We are aware that people were filming parts of this incident on mobile phones and other media.

"We aren't looking to prosecute anyone who did film the incident or its aftermath, we are looking for their help.

"It could be that while they may think they didn't capture anything of significance, they may have filmed something that could be vital to our investigation and help us to apprehend this violent suspect.

"We are also still keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack or may have information about where the suspect is.

"He is described as white, 6 ft tall, with short dark hair, balding at the front and is of a stocky build.

"He has tattoos to his upper body and neck.

"The victim and suspect are known to each other.

"If you do spot him then please dial 999 immediately, he nearly cost this man his life and he needs to be taken off the streets."

The victim is now out of hospital and is currently recovering with relatives, but anyone with information should contact CID at Basildon on 0300 333 4444.
