BRENTWOOD: Lead flashing stolen from homes

Friday, February 05, 2010, 17:18

METAL thieves have again struck in Brentwood.

Lead was stolen from the top of a bay window at a property in Station Lane, Ingatestone on Wednesday night.

At Wheelers Lane, Navestock, thieves stole five rolls of 240mm cable wire between 10am on January 20 and 10am on January 22.

In The Fairway, Harlow a four figure sum of lead was stolen from a roof area between January 29 and February 2.

Crime reduction officer Emma Clark said: "Criminals are clearly targeting any metal. However, lead flashing, which is usually found around windows and on roofs is heavy and the thieves must be using a vehicle of some sort to transport the lead away from the location.

"I would urge members of the public to be vigilant and to report to police immediately any suspicious people or vehicles in their neighbourhoods."
