BRENTWOOD: Caravan destroyed by fire

Monday, December 15, 2008, 08:15

THREE fire crews were needed to fight a caravan blaze because of a shortage of water.

The mobile home was parked on Sadlers Farm, in Beadshall Lane, Pilgrims Hatch, and was 40 per cent alight as the first crew from Brentwood arrived at 1.45pm on Saturday.

Incident commander, Andy White of Brentwood fire station, said: "This was a large, static caravan. There was one single male living in the mobile home but he had been away for the weekend."

Water shortages meant the crews needed support from colleagues from Ingatestone and Ongar.

The fire completely surrounded the caravan before crews finally put it out at 2.20pm.
