School is first in 31 years to lift the Ken Aston Trophy

BRENTWOOD School's promising Under-12 football side have won the prestigious Ken Aston Trophy and become the first independent school to win the county cup in its 31 year history.

Eighty schools entered the competition last September but it was the Brentwood boys who ran out 3-1 winners against Langdon in the final staged at the West Ham Academy last week.

They took the lead on 10 minutes through Ryan Norman and Brentwood's potent strike force of Elliot Boreham and Ben Stacey continued to pose the Langdon defence problems.

When Langdon pressed in the second half it was Brentwood defence with goalkeeper Christopher Maddison and centre-back George Payton outstanding.

George Dobson added a second for Brentwood before Langdon pulled a goal back in the second half, but the game was sealed late on when James Woodcock fired home their third goal.

The team, managed by John Killilea, scored 29 goals and conceding only six in all the six rounds of the competition.
