Perry Street crowned five-a-side kings

Wednesday, July 01, 2009, 10:17

A SERIES of impressive defensive performances saw Perry Street under-11s 'A' team emerge victorious from the Thurrock five-a-side football tournament.

The competition was fiercely contested, with some of the strongest teams from across Essex taking part.

However, Perry Street were able to reach the semi-finals, where they knocked out Grays Athletic to progress to the final.

They then triumphed over Great Danes 'A' to clinch the tournament and cap a highly successful first season at 11 a side football for the team.

Despite the high standard of the field, the eventual champions proved their quality throughout the day, scoring 20 goals in the 10 games leading up to the final and conceding a mere two.

Denis Simpson, the team's manager, said: "It was an excellent team performance that bodes well for next season."

Perry Street under-11s 'A' are also looking for players of a good standard for next season, where the team will be playing at under-12 level.
