MALDON: Wallington hopes squad will stay together

"WE don't want our season just to peter out," that's the message from Maldon Town boss Colin Wallington.

His side slumped to a 2-1 defeat to East Thurrock United at the weekend and with play-off ambitions all but finished, Wallington says the key to a successful season next year is keeping a consistent squad.

He said: "AFC Sudbury had a lot of success a few years ago by not chopping and changing much and keeping a settled squad that they had through pre-season.

"That's what I intend to do next season, I'm confident most of the lads here at the moment will stay on for next year and it's about getting that camaraderie going so they know each other and play well together."

Wallington is also confident that he can keep hold of top scorer Jack Jeffrey, he said: "He is happy here and I think we will have him for next year, I don't know if he will stay for the whole year, but that's the incentive for him to play well and then conference clubs might be interested."

Maldon have got a tough run of fixtures coming up and Wallington knows a good end to the season will make the start to next year a lot easier.
