Hannakins topple league leaders

HANNAKINS LADIES 3

ARLESEY TOWN LADIES 0

(Eastern Region Women's League Division One South)

HANNAKINS Ladies took league leaders Arlesey Town's unbeaten record on Sunday and moved into second place with a comprehensive 3-0 victory.

The ladies from Billericay produced an excellent performance against a strong, disciplined Arlesey Town side and won the individual battles all over the pitch. The first half was a tight affair with chances created at both ends although defences came out on top.

Kierra Gabriel came close with a 30 yard effort and Grace Clark hit the bar just before the break although the half ended goalless.

Hannakins came out firing in the second half and scored three goals in a five minute spell.

Gabriel opened the scoring on 50 minutes when she sent an inswinging corner straight into the net. She doubled her tally two minutes later when Pru Buckley cleverly set her up to fire home an unstoppable rocket into the bottom corner from a tight angle.

Buckley scored a debut goal on 55 minutes when she controlled a cross and volleyed home, via the post, from 12 yards.

Grace Clark could have made it 4-0 when she run onto a perfect 50 yard pass from Michelle Stoneman, but her shot grazed the outside of the post.

Arlesey piled on the pressure late on, but a fantastic one handed, point blank, save from Jackie Smith kept them at bay.

This Sunday Hannakins are away to Sawbridgeworth Town (kick-off 2pm).
