Braintree Town swoop for two defenders

Yesterday (Wednesday), the 31 year-old player who has had Football League experience with both Cambridge United and Torquay, was in talks with Iron manager Lee Patterson who was hoping to complete a deal before this weekend.
"He's an experienced, strong defender who can play anyway across the back," said Patterson. "We will be missing right-back Billy Burgess through suspension on Saturday so the new player could easily slot straight into that spot for us."
The Iron take on second-placed Team Bath (kick-off 3pm) at home on Saturday and then are visited by league leaders AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday (7.45pm).
"Both will be hard games but then there are no easy games in this league," Patterson continued. "But I would rather have it that way and I know the players would too and I'll be looking for points from both games."
Patterson was bitterly disappointed that his side conceded a late controversial equaliser in their local derby game with Chelmsford City on Monday after they had led through a Lee Burns goal for three-quarters of the game.
"I think their player who scored it, in what was disputed added on stoppage time anyway, was clearly offside and so did our substitute players who were warming up down that side," Patterson claimed. "But hard though such decisions are to take you have to accept them and hopefully over the course of the season they even themselves out.
"At the moment every decision seems to go against us and we're definitely not having any luck either but there's no good whingeing you just have to get on with the game.
"It was the same on Saturday when we conceded a so-called late penalty to lose 2-1 at home to Hampton & Richmond because everyone tells me it wasn't a penalty although I was too far away to see it properly.
"But I'm not asking for sympathy although we should have picked up four points over the holiday weekend but at least we are now up and running."
Tactically Patterson outwitted his City counterparts on Monday and praised his players for sticking to the prepared game plan which nearly came off.
He admits though they are missing the influence of the injured Mark Jones, Bradley Quinton and Andy Porter, none of who will be available for the next two games. Guiliano Grazioli is also expected to miss the matches through injury.
"We will have to see who's fit and who's not when we train tonight (Thursday) but I know the players put out for these two next games will carry on where we left off on Monday," he added.
Another new face at Cressing Road is defender Stevland Angus who has played for Barnet and Torquay United amongst other clubs and came on as a substitute against Hampton & Richmond only to pick up an injury as well.
One player who has left the club is striker Dave Bryant who has joined Blue Square South rivals Thurrock after what Patterson called a bizarre illegal approach.
