Verstegen Spices and Sauces are a family-owned company, with a long history that began way back in 1886 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The original owner was a spice merchant, who traded with the ships returning from Indonesia, laden with expensive and exotic spices such as nutmeg, mace and pepper. These spices were then blended into unique sausage seasonings and sold to local butchers. The original recipes are still sold today and remain a well-kept secret!

As demand for the spice blends grew, so did the company, and today Verstegen are one of Europe's largest manufacturers of herbs, spices, sauces, marinades and functional ingredients and are committed to supplying only the finest quality products to all sectors of the food industry. Their core business is managed via three business units, namely Retail (supplying branded Verstegen products via the supermarkets), Fresh Distribution (supplying products to chefs, butchers and other professional users) and Industry (supplying bulk products to food manufacturers and processors).

In 2000, Verstegen Spices & Sauces opened an office in the Essex town of Harwich to support their ever-increasing business gained from butchers throughout the UK, who use a variety of Verstegen marinades and sauces to create their own BBQ products, oven ready meals and many other delicious meat products. In 2007, Verstegen launched a range of consumer 'Micro Sauces' that have proved to be a big success and based on this, Verstegen launched their own website, www.verstegen-direct.co.uk, which offers customers a truly unique selection of consumer and professional ingredients and sauces.
