Frequently asked questions

Q. What do I have to do to register?

A. Simply fill in some simple information on the Registration Form and send it in. You can register by post or on-line.

Q. What do I have to do to enter?

A. Simply write in no more than 500 words (fewer are fine) why you believe you or your company should be recognised for an award and answer the maximum of five questions set by the judges. If you want to you can attach supporting documents such as photographs, leaflets, testimonials, etc. but this is entirely optional. You can enter by post or on-line.

Q. Who carries out the judging?

A. Each sponsor selects judges, usually from within their own organisation, who are experts in the field they are judging. The judges see every entry that is submitted to their category - entries are not pre-sorted before they reach the judges.

Q. What is the judging process?

A. The judges conduct a desk review of all the entries to their particular category and then create a short list of companies they want to visit. If you are short listed the judges will contact you to arrange a convenient visit date which must take place in the period mid June to mid July. The visit will usually last 1 - 1½ hours during which time you will be expected to re-present your entry and answer any questions or requests for back up that the judges might make. You will be advised if you have made it through to the finals in the second half of July.

Q. How many finalists are there?

A. The business categories are sub-divided into small/medium and large divisions at the discretion of the judges. There will generally be two finalists in each, one of whom will be the winner. Categories aimed at individuals IE Outstanding Business Person and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, are not sub-divided on the basis of company size and there will generally be three finalists, one of whom will be the winner.

In a very few cases where there is a very small gap between winner and runner up a "Highly Commended" award may be made.

Q. What do I get if I make the finals?

A. Great publicity and bragging rights! As a finalist you will be the subject of a quarter-page feature in the newspapers, be listed in the roll of honour on the web site, receive two tickets to the black-tie awards event (more may be purchased subject to availability) and have the opportunity of meeting and mixing with your peers.

Q. What do I get if I win?

A. More publicity in the newspapers and on the web site, a superb award to display, a commemorative photo of you receiving your award, use of the awards winners logo on your own web site, letterheads and so on, and the opportunity to tell all your clients and customers about your success.
