Ofiyke Nmezu, 16, is said to have been hit over the head in a row between a group of youths outside a shop in High Street, Ponders End, on February 15 this year.
Ofiyke, of Upper Edmonton, north London, died two weeks later in hospital from a fractured skull. He had not sought medical attention or contacted police about the incident until the day of his death.
Liam Palmer, 18, is charged with the schoolboy's murder and has already pleaded not guilty at a hearing in June.
On Friday he appeared in the dock with his two older brothers who are accused of trying to cover for their sibling by giving him an alibi.
Aiden Palmer, 21, and Daryl Palmer, 20, both pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice.
They are said to have made a false statement to police on March 3 that stated Liam Palmer had been at the family home in Thaxted on February 15 between 3 and 9pm.
It is also said they both told officers they were not aware their brother had the street name of "Danger".
All three men will stand trial on November 3. The case is expected to last three weeks.
Ofiyke, known as Iyke, was a pupil at Kingsmead School, Upper Edmonton, and lived in Enfield. He was a keen sportsman who loved football.
Liam Palmer, of Field View, Cutlers Green, Thaxted, was remanded in custody.
Aiden and Daryl Palmer, of the same address, were released on conditional bail.
