Two lorries, both travelling towards Braintree, were involved in a collision at 1.15pm today (Friday).
One of the vehicles was carrying around 18 cows and it is believed up to five of these were killed in the crash.
The other vehicle overturned but has now been righted.
The road is expected to remain closed until around 5.30pm while the surviving cattle are safely transferred to another vehicle.
