Work on phase one of Flitch Green Primary School in Oakwood Park, Little Dunmow, has now finished, to the delight of head teacher Helen Johnson and her staff.
She said: "This has been a very exciting project and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work in helping to set up the school. The support and understanding from the community has been overwhelming.
"Both staff and pupils cannot wait to get going in the new building and mark the first chapter of the Flitch Green story."
The £3.9million school, which has been built for 210 pupils, will initially have 55 pupils, five full-time and one part-time teacher as well as support staff.
It has been built to serve the Oakwood Park development of more than 500 homes and the surrounding area.
The school includes a rain- harvesting system to provide water to flush toilets, solar shading panels, underfloor heating and a biomass boiler to provide efficient heating
Lord Hanningfield, leader of Essex County Council, said: "It has been a hectic start to the new term for Flitch Green Primary, but all concerned have coped with the upheaval magnificently."
Because of the slight delay in opening children had special lessons at Great Saling Millennium Hall for two weeks.
