A trip to Legoland is on the horizon for 14-month-old Arun Singh and his family after he was named overall winner of the Essex Chronicle Baby of the Year 2008 contest.

Arun, from Old Moulsham, Chelmsford, won the trip with overnight hotel accommodation, plus a trophy and a large framed photograph of himself as his prizes.

The contest attracted almost 500 entries and more than 5,000 votes.

Arun's mum Sally said: "We are very proud of him and have also decided as a family to name his sister Marisa as Sister of the Year, so there won't be any jealousy.

"We would like to thank all our family and friends for voting for Arun."

The winner of the nought to nine months category was Aruun Subavarathan from Witham, aged nine months, while Vincent O'Meara, now aged 19 months, from West Hanningfield, was the winner of the 10 to 18 months category.

The winner of the 19 to 36 months category was Xana Machado, aged almost three, from Braintree.

All the category winners received trophies and portrait photographs of themselves produced by BCR Photographic who took pictures of all the entrants at the Meadows shopping centre in Chelmsford and at the Sainsbury's store in Braintree.
