Brave Gareth's rugby win

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 11:57

RUGBY fan Gareth Richardson, who is in remission from leukaemia after a three-and-a-half year battle, is to have one of his greatest wishes granted.

Thanks to the charity Kids in Need Gareth, 18, from Rubens Gate, Springfield, and Boswells School classmate Ben Hudson will be cheering on the England rugby team this Saturday at Twickenham in a match against South Africa.

For Gareth, pictured above, it will mark his return to health after fighting acute lymphoblastic leukaemia with such courage that he was given a series of awards.

He said: "I have always been a rugby fan. I am delighted."

His bravery and inspiring attitude in facing leukaemia led to him winning the Princess Diana Award, the Jack Petchey Award and Boswells School's Overcoming Adversity award.

Gareth added: "The rugby day out has come at just the right time and I will really be able to enjoy it."
