The Friends of Danbury Scouts, who organise the event, feared the event may have to be cancelled for the first time in its history because of torrential downpours in the run-up to Saturday's display.
Nigel Hills, the event manager, said: "The weather did cause us some problems, we had to move the firework firing site due to the strong winds being forecast.
"It was also noticeable that people left it late to arrive which caused a short delay."
Traffic queued from junction 18 on the A12 along the A414 to Danbury as families made a last-minute dash to the firework extravaganza, which had to be delayed so everyone could get through the gates.
The figures are yet to be finalised but the organisers claim it may be a record year for profits, which will go to 1st Danbury Scout Group and other charities in the area.
Zoe Miller, 25, and her three children spent 30 minutes stuck in traffic as they made their way from Chelmsford to Danbury and then queued for another 15 minutes to get in.
She was disappointed to find the fireworks started late: "What is the point of having a timetable if they are not going to stick to it? We have been going there since I was a kid and it has always been excellent.
"We spent £18 and were out for nearly three hours for 10 minutes of fireworks," said Zoe, of Ockleford Avenue, Chelmsford.
Mr Hills commented: "The fireworks lasted for 23 minutes, 53 seconds. It was a huge success, we were luckier than most with the weather and we actually made money, whereas most people lost money last weekend."
