Shop staff and police unite to reduce crime

Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 12:02

SHARED intelligence is being used by shops and businesses in Maldon under a new initiative to crack down on crime.

The first meeting of Business Watch, held at the Warwick Arms, High Street, was attended by police, shopkeepers, businesses and representatives from Maldon District Council's licensing and economic development departments.

Sgt Richard Miller, of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "It is important that businesses work together and with the police to make Maldon a place to avoid if you are a criminal.

Business Watch agreed one of the first initiatives would be to pass on information on forged bank notes to the police, who would alert all members.

The next meeting of Business Watch will take place on January 13 at 7pm at the Warwick Arms, High Street, Maldon. For information contact Christine.walker@essex.pnn. police.uk
