BRENTWOOD: Rugby club gets its kit off for naked charity calendar
Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 14:37
From the beginning of next month, pictures of the team with their kit off are available for anyone's wall in a 2009 calendar.
Players, aged from 18 to 40, pose in a variety of sporting scenes, including the showers and on the pitch with only rugby balls to hide their embarrassment.
But it's all in a good cause with a portion of the proceeds going to men's cancer charity Everyman.
Members of the team, based in Ashwells Road, Pilgrims Hatch, posed for the photos after manager Melanie Bryant and captain Matthew Staines organised the shoots.
Melanie said: "As most of the photos are 'naked' – but keeping their pride intact – we chose the charity Everyman.
"Because prostrate or testicular cancer is something that could affect any of the men here at the club at some point in their lives, young or old, all of the men that play in the rugby team thought it would be appropriate.
"We are hoping that the calendar will be available to purchase by the first week of December, in time for Christmas presents, and what a gift it would be – not only getting some fantastic photos of the boys but also raising awareness and money for a very good cause."
Team member John James said: "The photo shoot was a bit surreal, standing in a rugby field with nothing on – it was kind of liberating, but we are doing it for a good cause."
If any local business thinks it could help sell the calendar they are asked to give the club a call.
Businesses, or anyone else who wants to buy the calendar should also contact Melanie Bryant at the Society of Old Brentwoods on 01277 374070 or melbryant1@hotmail.com.
