Santa starts festive fun

Members of the town centre strategy group, along with chairman Ken Game as Father Christmas, pushed the button – much to the delight of a group of onlookers.
Parts of the High Street, Rayne Road, Bank Street, the end of London Road, Coggeshall Road, Manor Street and Market Place have been lit up after a year of fundraising by the group, which had to raise £10,000.
Mr Game said: "Everything went well and we are looking to go ahead with one or two more next year.
"We had hoped to get the lamp posts in Rayne Road but we were too late to get them passed by the highways authority as acceptable."
● Witham will also be going festive soon.
The town council says this year's Christmas lights will be eco-friendly and switched off overnight.
The decorations will be put up in Newland Street this weekend and are funded solely by the town council.
