Billericay Town boss sets Play-off target

After missing out in last season's Ryman League Premier Division campaign, the Town manager wants to go one better this year and is hoping two wins from the first two games will put them on the right track.
"My aim for this season is for Billericay Town to at least to make the play-offs – I'll accept nothing less and that has to be aim of everyone involved with the club," Broom declared yesterday (Tuesday).
"We won't be bringing in any more new players at present and I'm quite happy to go with what we currently have.
"The players have worked hard in pre-season and we're fully prepared for another long season."
Town open their new campaign on Saturday with a difficult trip to Staines Town who missed out on promotion last season, losing in the play-offs.
"It's an extra tough first game for us because they're a good side and proved it by making the play-offs last season and they have strengthened again," said Broom. "But we go there looking for a win and I certainly want something from the game even though it will a hard one for us."
On Tuesday Town entertain newly promoted and ambitious Tooting & Mitcham at New Lodge (kick-off 7.45pm) and Broom added: "They'll want to make a good start too, having been the top goal scoring side in the whole league last season netting 84 times and have added two new forwards for this season.
"I've always said there are no easy games in this division and we will have be on our game from the kick-off," he said. "Everybody wants to make a good start and we are no exception because it breeds confidence amongst the whole team, getting early points in the bag.
"We finished each of our last two friendlies winning 4-1 but I wasn't 100 per cent happy with our performances.
"There's much more to come from our side even though it's pleasing we've scored 21 goals in our nine friendlies."
Broom was also hopeful of having a full squad available for the opening game with both Ashley Dumas and Bradley Woods-Garness having fully recovered from knocks picked up last week.
The joint manager has also been heartened by the progress of Joe Flack, who spent most of last season injured but has played in some pre-season games.
He is expected to be in contention alongside Rikki Burbridge who has re-signed for the club.
The other heartening news for Blues fans is that Jamie Dormer's scan has shown only inflammation on his injured knee which means a couple of weeks' proper rest before he can be back in action.
However, one player who will be missing is midfielder Matt Game, who spent most of last season out injured following a horrific leg break.
Game had been working hard to comeback this season but he has suffered a stress fracture in the same leg and looks set to stay on the sidelines for another two to three months.
A double from Flack, a penalty from Dave Wareham and a Steve Heffer finish contributed to Town's 4-1 win at East Thurrock United on Saturday.
