BRAINTREE Town right winger Andy Yiadom signed for npower League Two side Barnet on Tuesday morning and hours later made his debut in their 5-0 defeat against Stevenage in the Herts Senior Cup.

The 20-year-old, who has signed an 18 month contract at the Underhill club, has thanked the Iron for helping to boost his career and achieving his aim of signing for a Football League club.

"I really appreciate how good the club has been to me in my short time there and I've really enjoyed my stay," he said. "The players in the team were great and manager Alan Devonshire has been really supportive and I appreciate that.

"It's always been my ambition to play in the Football League and now I'm there and I think playing for Braintree in the top Conference league has helped me.

"We had a great start to the season and I'm sure they will stay up there and now I'm looking forward to full-time football and to make my mark at a higher level."

Yiadom, who joined in last August after spending the previous season at struggling Hayes & Yeading, had declined to sign a contract at the Amlin Stadium so he could be a free agent if and when a bigger club came in.

It means Braintree won't receive any money for the speedy wide man but Barnet have agreed to play the Iron in a pre-season friendly as a way of compensation.

Braintree boss Devonshire said: "Good luck to the lad and I hope it all works out for him as a full-time player and we wish him well.

"It's always good to see a young player move up and we shall watch his progress with interest."

Also leaving the Amlin Stadium on Tuesday was striker Chib Chilaka who has signed for Blue Square Bet North side Harrogate Town who he spent a month with last season.

The 25 year-old Nigerian signed for the Iron last summer and has spent most of the time on the substitutes' bench coming on 22 times in his 28 games but only scoring two goals.

Devonshire said: "It's hasn't quite worked out for him here with us so he's gone back up North, where he comes from, and has signed for Harrogate Town.

"Again, we thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future."

Chilaka's departure coincides with the return to full fitness of striker Jamie Guy and he's expected to be on the bench when the Iron play to Lincoln City on Saturday.

Guy recently returned to the club after a loan spell at Thurrock but has been sidelined with a toe injury.

"He had a full training session on Tuesday and will get another in today (Thursday), so if there are no ill effects I expect him to be on the bench for us at Lincoln on Saturday," said Devonshire.

The Iron will be missing Ben Wright, serving the second of his three suspended matches for being sent off at Fleetwood, so they are lightweight in attack.

On-loan wide player Brendan Kiernan from AFC Wimbledon, who made his debut in Saturday's 1-0 home win over Barrow AFC, could fill the gap until Guy is fully match fit.

"The lad did okay considering he had only been training with the team first, last Thursday, so he didn't really know the players," he explained.

"But he'll start at Lincoln and again I think it's another player we will help progress.

"He's highly regarded at Wimbledon and has come on for the first team off the bench in his last two games there.

"We've effectively got him for four Saturdays on a month's loan and at the end of that I'll talk to Wimbledon and the player and we'll take it from there and see if anything happens."
