WEST MERSEA: Driver failed to stop after hitting cyclists
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a driver failed to stop after crashing into two cyclists in West Mersea.
The riders were thrown clear and their mountain bikes were badly damaged by the truck when the accident happened in Colchester Road at about 7.40am on Sunday (March 29).
The cyclists, two men both aged 43 and from Colchester, were taken to hospital with cuts and bruises but were allowed home after treatment.
The vehicle was a silver coloured 4x4 pick up truck with a flat bed back or similar.

Sgt Dave Cook said: "The driver of this vehicle showed absolutely no regard for these cyclist and as far as he was concerned he left them for dead.
"It was a very callous act and the riders were extremely lucky to escape with slight injuries.
"We also believe that the driver of the pick up was nearly involved in a head-on collision on the Causeway a short time before he struck the cyclists in Colchester Road."
