True Blood star Stephen Moyer was back in his native Essex last night to take his family to a performance of The Twits at Brentwood Theatre.

The Hollywood actor started out performing with the Brentwood Operatic Society's Youth Theatre Group but is now famous worldwide for his portrayal of charming vampire Bill Compton in the acclaimed HBO television series.

Moyer, 41, who's engaged to True Blood co-star Anna Paquin, is back in the UK for the festive break but flies back to the US next week to start filming season three of the hit show.

Friendly, open and affable, Moyer said he'd been reluctant to talk to the press before True Blood but he's so pleased with it he wants to spread the word.

"I'm really proud of the show so I'm really happy to talk about it."

"It's nice to be happy to talk about it. In terms of a job coming together and being everything I wanted, this ticks all the boxes."

The second season of True Blood will come to British television screens in 2010.

Look out for our interview with Stephen Moyer in go! next week.

“I am just so pleased & proud & happy that Mark Reed and I ''met'' online back in October'08 when I tried to make a gift online IHO Steve... Back then, Mark will tell you he had no idea how POPULAR Steve Moyer was becoming in the USA with the increased interest in TB... And as a former fundraiser who made the first USA gift, I was honored to have Mark and Steve's trust to work together to create the Fan-based Brick Campaign -- back then, there were maybe 7-8 fansites: 1 dedicated to Steve, a couple for Anna, a vampire site or 2 apart from TrueBlood, and a few for Charlaine and the Sookbooks... the HBO TB Wiki and spinoffs... needless to say, it is still a thrill to think that with a few press releases, the word spread... the campaign kicked off... and by January'09, we raised 5,000GBP ---Suddenly fan sites popped up all over, who worked together to find clever ways to continue the support long after the Brick Campaign ended... plus a few wonderful individuals who have also made special gifts that will sustain Brentwood Theatre's efforts for years to come!!!
---- PLUS the friendships made as a result -- those online, plus my month in Essex and my dear friends Mark, David, Ella, Brad, Sherry, Katie, Steve, Audrey, the Southgates, Lily, Jean, Amanda, Steve, the Phoenix folks, et al. -- leave me speechless. No words can describe how full my heart!!!
----Here's to the Arts! Here's to TrueBlood ratings TOPPING The Sopranos! Here's to peace in 2010!
    ---Excelsior!”
