BILLERICAY Town have this week announced their involvement in a government scheme to get more people involved in sport.

The club is now part of the Sport in the Community Initiative run by Sport England as they look to forge better links with local schools and groups.

This can be seen as part of Grant Gordon's attempt to increase the profile of the club in the area. The club's new owner is keen to build on the Blues' nucleus of the first-team, three women's teams and thriving youth set-up.

A club statement read: "Based on the success and experience of running these teams, the club are now in the process of consultation with local schools and groups to share our ideas and initiatives by offering a wide range of activities and sports for children and adults of all levels and abilities.

"We have assembled a very enthusiastic team and expect to have some of these initiatives up and running by Christmas."

Manager Craig Edwards has already held a number of meetings with local schools with a few events already confirmed.

The club will be holding a launch meeting at New Lodge on Thursday, September 20 at 8pm. Everyone from the community is welcome to attend.
