THERE was plenty of entente cordial at the Towers Petanque Club in South Weald at the weekend with the 27th annual competition against 16 boules players from Merckeghem in northern France.
Three games were played on the Saturday afternoon, after which a convivial evening was spent at South Weald, where the French visitors were entertained with a disco/ dance and a BBQ of Piri-Piri chicken and prize-winning Essex sausages from Olivers' of Hutton.
On Sunday morning, three further boules matches were played in perfect sunny and warm conditions followed by an enjoyable Hog Roast provided by the Tower Arms.
The final score revealed a victory for the English team by 28 games to 20.
