DESPITE signing a dozen new players on Maldon & Tiptree's new manager Terry Spillane is still on the lookout for one more crucial – a centre-half.

With last season's experienced central defender Adam Flanagan having left the club and former player-coach, defender Ian Cousins looking set to leave on his return from holiday, Spillane knows he needs to get an experienced player in for this key position.

"I feel that's the only position I still need to bring somebody in and we're looking at one or two possible players," he said. "Otherwise I'm more than happy with the squad which is coming together nicely."

It looks as if only three of last season's players are remaining at the club – midfielder Ollie Berquez this week confirmed he's staying having signed for the season plus striker Ross Wall and midfielder Joe Pearman.

Although Spillane has brought in some players from his former club, Redbridge, he stresses that every player coming into the club was being chosen because of having the right attitude and character let alone ability.

"It's important you have the right players when you have a big squad," he explained.

"They have to be able to fit in and do for the team what we want."

Latest new recruit to the club is keeper James May who was with Essex Senior League side Stansted last season.

Others joining are Michael Toner (ex-Heybridge Swifts), Mitchell Das (Ex-Redbridge) and former Colchester Utd youngster Arrun Best.
