Swifts' joy after eight of the best
HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS thrashed Redbridge 8-0 on Tuesday night to claim their first league win of the season in stunning fashion.
After a slow start to the campaign, Swifts turned on the style on their travels with forward Luke Callander bagging four goals. It was Swifts' biggest win at Ryman League Division One North level.
Jon Edwards, Michael Cheek and a brace from Ben Newson completed a route that left manager Mark Hawkes purring. He said: "If you want to end up in a decent place in the league you've got to go to places like Redbridge and Ilford and get the points.
"It's the biggest win I've had since I've been here, it's not the biggest in my managerial career but it's the biggest with for Heybridge Swifts at this level."

Hawkes was delighted with Callander's contribution but was quick to praise his team's work ethic. He said: "Luke took his goals very well. The side played well.
"I'm taking nothing away from our lads because we played well and we've had a very good pre-season.
"Our squad are fit and they were working as hard in the last minute as were in the first, we put them under pressure and won the ball back quite quickly and scored goals at regular intervals.
"To score eight goals at this level well, I wouldn't say it's a one off, but it doesn't come along that often."
Next up in a home game in the FA Trophy preliminary round against Worthing on Saturday followed by a trip in the league to Grays Athletic on Tuesday night.
This week the club was drawn away against Hayes & Yeading in the FA Cup second qualifying round. That match takes place a week on Saturday.
Hawkes is naturally keen for his squad to take advantage of the confidence boost gained by Tuesday's thrashing by quickly adding to the five points they have from the opening four league fixtures.
But he says he knew the start of the season could prove difficult after wholesale changes to the squad over the summer.
"I don't think we got the rewards we really deserved from the opening games of the season," he said.
"With the changes of members of the squad in that we've got seven or eight new players and four of five of them have come from the standard below. So, it was always going to be a case of as the season goes on we're going to get better but we're learning more quickly than I thought we would.
"I think we're ahead of where we thought we would be in terms of performances, but obviously we'd like to have some more points in the bag."
