Swifts hit four past Brentwood
HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS 4
BRENTWOOD TOWN 0
(Ryman One Division One North)
SWIFTS included new signing Kevin Dobinson from Canvey Island in their starting line-up and the former Chelmsford City midfielder had an impressive debut in what turned out to be a comprehensive victory for the home side.
There was also a welcome return after a long injury to central defender Lee Kersey.
The win keeps Swifts on the edges of the promotion play-offs and they will need to reproduce this form and result against fourth placed Harlow Town this Saturday to maintain their challenge.
Swifts made the breakthrough on 26 minutes with a run and shot from Luke Callander and he doubled his and the team's tally two minutes later by steering home a Chris Bryan cross from the right from close range.
Brentwood were denied again before the break, this time by the bar as a long range effort from Robbie Rees crashed the woodwork yet fell sweetly for Jose Espinoza right in front of goal but the alert keeper Jason Willis saved with his legs.
Swifts kept the cards in their hand during the second half and almost grabbed a third on 76 minutes when a long range effort from Russell Pond seemed to bend and turn in the air before being spilt by the Brentwood keeper Elliott Justham, Tom Broadhurst followed in but the keeper saved.
As the final 10 minutes began so Broadhurst was put through on goal, but was brought down by keeper Justham, who was booked. Bryan tucked the penalty away.
With two minutes to go a Swifts attack had players lining up to help Bryan in the box who was tripped and Justham was given his marching orders for a second yellow card.
Substitute Jack West converted the penalty for 4-0 past stand in keeper Steve Butterworth as Swifts rounded off a fine win.
