Serial criminal Alan Harris banned from every pub in UK
A SERIAL criminal has been banned from every pub and club in the UK after attacking a curry house owner.
Alan Harris, 39, of Lupin Drive, Springfield, lost his temper when a waiter at the Gulshan Indian restaurant in New Street told him the poppadoms were not free.
Restaurant owner Runu Miah and his waiting staff had to pin Harris to the floor until police came to arrest him.
Harris, who has a string of convictions including assaulting a police officer, told the Chronicle: "I won't be going into pubs or clubs now. The implications are too big for me. They're absolutely massive.

"I support West Ham and had been quite high-spirited when I visited Gulshan in February because they had won against Millwall.
"Basically I had a drunken disagreement and we came to blows, so I got arrested and they charged me for a public order offence. It was totally stupid."
The father-of-one was charged with a serious assault on Mr Miah and with threatening waiter Charles Fernandes.
At Chelmsford Magistrates Court Judge David Cooper imposed a six-month ban from all pubs and clubs in the UK.
Mr Miah said: "We have now banned him from the restaurant too. He was incredibly rude and began swearing at me when I told him we did not give out free poppadoms.
"I didn't say anything to him but he began threatening me, saying he would come back and sort me out, saying he would kill me.
"The woman he was with then had to hold him back but he punched me above my eye and I developed quite a big lump there.
"I then grabbed him and got him on the floor and we called the police who arrested him.
"I am glad he has been banned from all clubs and pubs nationally. We are a small restaurant and we have decent people come in to enjoy good food. We do not want that ruined for everyone else.
"I'm a big lad and I'm fine. Hopefully he will learn a lesson from this."
With a string of criminal convictions over the past few years, including growing cannabis plants in January this year, using threatening behaviour, vandalism and assaulting a police officer, Harris admits he has suffered with drink problems.
But he said: "I had put my life back together in the last few years and hope that this doesn't mean I will lose my job."
Chelmsford's Publink group, made up of 38 pubs and clubs, will discuss Alan Harris' case at their next meeting in April.
Nick Harmston, manager of the Bay Horse and head of Publink, said: "We will receive a picture of Mr Harris and be told what he has done.
"When we receive a ban from the courts we then get the chance to decide whether we think the sentence is long enough.
"The maximum for a serious assault is three years and it is important for staff safety to ensure that the ban is implemented.
"If he is going to do that to a member of staff anywhere we need to make sure that other members of staff in pubs and clubs here are safe and this does work."
Chief Inspector Steve Ditchburn said: "There is a national database on those who are banned and we feed pubs and clubs information on those that are prosecuted and banned."
Harris was given a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, for assaulting Runu Miah on February 4 in a serious assault and must pay £250 compensation.
He must not enter any pubs and clubs within the UK for six months.
He was also given 16 weeks concurrent for using threatening behaviour towards Charles Fernandes which was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
