CHELMSFORD CC's second eleven won at Wanstead to get their Shepherd Neame Essex Cricket League Second XI Premier Division season rolling.

The bowlers all performed really well with Craig Thompson (2-21), Olly Devenish (2-34), Matt Poole (3-35) and Stuart Everard (2-29) restricting Wanstead to 122,

Haris Mahmood played well for 42 but much of the rest of the batting was shaky. Miles Clark made a memorable contribution on his debut, scoring an important 22 not out as the target was passed with three wickets left.

It was a pretty straightforward chase for the Chelmsford third team with Neal Abhyankar's 6-30 making a mess of Shenfield's innings.

Liam Keaney also picked up two wickets as Shenfield succumbed for 85. Paul Keaney (24) and Gary Chidley (33*) were in belligerent mood and made quick work of the target for a seven wicket win.

The toughest chase of the lot was the fourth team who sneaked home by two wickets chasing Hadleigh & Thundersley's 101 all out. When they were reduced to 48 for seven by Topliss (4-37) and Straker (3-34), victory looked remote. The combination of Sam Trowell, Alistair Fergus and Abi Kumar got them home.

When the fifth team posted just 99 at Horndon on the Hill a result looked certain but the game ended in a frustrating draw as the reply closed at 82-8.
