Peter Reeve, suspected of killing Pc Ian Dibell, died of gunshot wound to head
Peter Reeve, suspected of killing Pc Ian Dibell in a shooting in Clacton, was found dead from a gunshot wound to his head with the firearm lying nearby, police have said.
Reeve's body was discovered in the grounds of All Saints Church, Writtle, less than 24 hours after he went on the running following the death of Pc Dibell.
Essex Police Chief Constable Jim Barker-McCardle said: "I can confirm that Peter Reeve, the man wanted in connection with the shooting of a serving police officer, has been found this morning in Writtle, a small village just outside of Chelmsford.
"Peter Reeve, the 64 year old man from Clacton was found with wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"I can confirm that Reeve was found dead with a weapon in a Writtle churchyard and that no shots were fired by police.
"I would like to thank all members of the public for their assistance to Essex Police throughout the night.
"I appreciate this operation has caused considerable inconvenience to many people, and I would like thank the public for their support during this time."
It is believed that Reeve was found after Writtle residents alerted police.
The police helicopter was seen hovering over the village at around 2am this morning.
