New Yorker Annie calls into Essex
NEW York singer song-writer, Annie Dressner is coming to Essex to perform at High Barn in Great Bardfield this Friday, June 29 when she'll be performing songs from her debut album Strangers Who Knew Each Other's Names.
When you hear a New York singer, you would normally expect to hear loud beats and energetic lyrics that complement the hectic city and its busy inhabitants; this is far from Annie's style.
Annie's songs are a mixture of acoustic and folk-pop tracks. Her innocent voice rolls out and flows with the peaceful melodies and gentle rhythms. While some of her songs like With You and Come Back sound like lullabies, others like Hardy Boys and Find Me are more upbeat.
She has recently moved from her hometown of New York, and her music is getting widespread acclaim while her album has just featured in iTunes' editorial coverage.

Many critics agree that her singing has conversational elements because of the honesty and confessional tone. Explorer magazine describe Annie's album as "a collection of self-penned meditations on love and life, all underpinned by a distinctive, charmingly warm vocal style." Daniel Kent wrote for The Examiner that: "Dressner is a siren; not in a metaphorical entertainment writer speak sort of way, but in a literal 'I think she has some magic in her' sort of way."
Annie's 'unplugged' show at High Barn this Friday begins at 7:30pm. Tickets are £6.50 and are available from www.high-barn.com.
