Lisa Suttle beats men to canoeing medals
IT was a double individual silver medal weekend for Chelmsford born and bred canoeist Lisa Suttle when competing in a series of international races at Boulogne in France over the weekend.
Suttle, who was a member of the Chelmsford Canoe Club where she learned her canoeing skills, took on and beat male competitors in the two-day event.

"This has historically been a male dominated discipline but is now rapidly gaining worldwide recognition as an event for women as well," explained Suttle. "So I am pleased to have done well and collected two silver medals against strong competition."
Currently a water sports manager at Derwent Water Marina, she regularly competes at Holme Pierre Point National Regatta Course for sprint canoeing.

On day one of the competition, staged on the River Liane in Boulogne, she secured straight entry to the C1 200M final A by winning her heat before picking up a silver medal in the final.
On Sunday the C1 500M was a straight final event which was an extremely close fought affair with Suttle securing another silver medal position and missing out on gold by less than half a second.
The ladies last event of this international meeting was the final of the C2 500M that included some seven crews.
Suttle, and her partner Samantha Rippington, were extremely successful by winning this event and gaining a gold medal and revealed she would be returning for the Women's Canoe 2012 event scheduled for the end of July this year in Boulogne.
"I'm very grateful to all our supporters, and particularly our coach, for all their encouragement and support and giving us the opportunity take part and to promote this sport for women," she said.
