LOCKS of hair fell to the floor in clumps when Katie Arnold had a foot in length chopped off for charity.

The 25-year-old got the cut in aid of the Little Princesses charity, which provides wigs for child cancer victims.

Katie was inspired after a friend was diagnosed with cancer.

"She said the most devastating part was losing her hair," Katie said, "and that stuck with me."

Despite her radically different appearance, Katie, who was joined in her efforts by her sister Nicola, does not regret letting her hair down.

"I was shocked at how quick it was – three snips and the hair was gone! But I am happy with my decision, knowing my hair will serve a good purpose."

Katie chose The Hub in Brentwood for the cut.

"They were brilliant to us. Our stylist, Chris, washed and restyled it for us. Best of all, when it was finished he told us not to pay him! It was such a kind, unexpected gesture."

Katie says it will take two years for her hair to return to the length it was. In the meantime, she says she may decide to acquire a wig of her own if she misses it.

So far she has raised £930. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/katie-arnold0
