Justine gets gold and two silvers
AN INSPIRATIONAL double transplant athlete struck gold for the second time this year at the British Transplant Games last month.
Justine Laymond, 37, from Broomfield, claimed the gold medal in the 100m track event, along with two silver medals in the badminton doubles and long jump and a bronze in the squash.
Justine went to Bath for the games, held between August 19-22, having already won the long jump in the European Heart and Lungs Transplant Games in July.
She said: "I'm quite chuffed to be honest – the British Transplant Games is much more difficult than the European Heart and Lungs Transplant Games because you're competing against people who have had much more minor transplants."
Having already beaten death and recovering from terminal disease lymphangio leiomyomatosis, she beat the odds to win the sprint in 18 seconds, setting a new personal best.
Justine is already looking ahead to next year, and hopes to be named in the team to compete in the World Transplant Games, to be announced next month.
