High drama and jolly japes in Chelmsford
Last week in go!, we previewed some of the January highlights of the new season at the Civic theatres in Chelmsford, this week we look further ahead at what's coming up this spring.
Great drama is in store with I, Bertold Brecht, a thought-provoking and witty look at the hugely influential playwright and theatre director's plays, songs and poems coming to Chelmsford from March 20-21.
Heartwarming and hilariously funny, All The Single Ladies comes to the stage on March 22-24 and stars Leslie Ash of Men Behaving Badly fame and former EastEnders star Brooke Kinsella who's recently been awarded an MBE.
A literary favourite comes to Chelmsford from April 18-20 with Sense And Sensibility. Jane Austen's much loved novel is adapted for the stage with beautiful imagery and original music as well as requisite humour and heartbreak.
Stage stalwarts Joe Pasquale and Robert Powell will be doing their rounds in an exuberant stage show version of classic sitcom Doctor In The House from April 30 to May 5. Expect farce of the highest order.
By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes... Shakespeare's epic tragedy Macbeth is staged in a kinetic, bloodthirsty production on May 9.
Comedy comes in the form of Raining Men from June 1-2, the story of Phil the bouncer, Doug the DJ and Colin the barman in this play that's a mixture of The Full Monty and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and features the music of Barbara Streisand, Shirley Bassey and Judy Garland.
But before that on February 10, watch out for American Anthems with star guest John Parr (St Elmo's Fire) who'll be playing his songs while the rest of the cast belts out US rock classics like Born To Run, Bat Out Of Hell, Sweet Child Of Mine and Livin' On A Prayer.
