Girl students break male domination
GIRL power was celebrated in Billericay when a group of female students were rewarded for their success.
The annual Molly Perry awards are given out to pupils from the town who have excelled at traditionally male subjects, such as science, medicine and engineering, and are going on to study the subjects at university.
The awards were founded in memory of Billericay engineer and businesswoman Molly Perry who died in 1984. She left a sum of money to be used as a trust fund to help women moving into male dominated areas and each winner received cheques and book tokens worth up to £100.
The awards are now organised by the town's Business and Professional Women (BPW) group.
