Ex-officer fundraiser honoured with Torch

EX-POLICEMAN Jed Stopher will carry the Olympic flame next week having helped raise more than £100,000 for charity.

The 49-year-old from Braintree will jog through Chelmsford on July 7 despite having had an operation on his knee just two weeks ago.

The father-of-four said: "It's great, I'm looking forward to taking part, it's a real honour.

"I was Chief Superintendent for Essex Police before I retired last year and ran 10 marathons in my uniform.

"There was always a team of us and we raised over £100,000 between us for Broomfield Hospital's intensive care unit.

"They saved my mum's life when she was ill and I wanted to give something back."

Mr Stopher will also be working at the Sparks Will Fly event with his security company, Show and Event.

"We work at music festivals and have been given the job of providing security for the torch relay."
